Walking Venice - Part Due

We had the afternoon off and were museumed-out so we decided to walk southeast along the waterfront, away from the touristy area.

We walked through a little garden park that was along the way.

A bronze monument to Venetian aviator,  World War One pilot, and arctic aerial rescue pilot Pier Luigi Penzo.   He died while attempting a forced landing on the Rhone River in France in 1928 at the age of 32.  The largest sports facility in Venice is also named after him.

Looking out over the Venetian Lagoon.

Nice boat!

The further east we went, the less touristy it was.  This eastern part of Venice looked more like a community than a sightseeing area.  We stopped for a gelato at that little cafe at center.

Typical Venetian canal.
